ARRANGER | PERFORMER | TUNER | STEELPAN INSTRUCTOR
Born and raised in a family of steelpan performers, arrangers, and manufacturers,
Akil Browne's musical journey began under the guidance of his father, Cecil Phillip, and Kenneth, Herman, and Tony Guppy.
With over two decades of experience in the music industry, Akil has toured in the United Kingdom, the USA, and the Caribbean.
Akil is a seasoned steelpan performer who loves the artform. He has arranged for multiple steelbands, leading them to the grand finals of Trinidad & Tobago's National Steelpan Competition "Panorama,
" the world's largest steelpan competition.
One of the highlights of his career includes playing and recording with South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, singer, and composer Hugh Masekela on the album "Siparia to
Soweto.
" In 2022, Akil received an award as one of the top Youth Arrangers for steelpan and steel bands.
Akil is also the Musical Director of Hill Toppers Steelpan Academy. He loves working with children and is dedicated to fostering youth in communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
